Reddit plans to make logging in the norm

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said the company will move Reddit to a primarily logged-in experience after two decades of open browsing. He gave four reasons: user experience, the ads business, safety regulation and protecting Reddit data. Logged-out visitors made up 77.7 million of 130.3 million daily uniques in Q2. First tests will run in select markets outside the US in the coming months.
Our take
This is a threat to every brand that counts on Reddit threads ranking in Google or getting cited in AI answers. If a searcher hits a login wall, that thread stops doing free selling for you. Keep earning Reddit mentions, but start moving the best answers on your product onto pages you own so you are not renting that trust.
