Today’s MarketingReddit says Google AI Mode is cutting its search traffic
Reddit warned its 130 million daily active uniques could fall by a low double digit percentage in the fourth quarter. Its shareholder letter said search referrals dropped by more than 1 million a week on average in October. On the October 29 earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman named AI Overviews and AI Mode as the biggest factor and said AI Mode does not drive traffic.
Our take
If Reddit, one of Google’s favorite sources, is losing clicks this fast, your blog is not safe either. Stop counting on Reddit threads and Google clicks as a free traffic loop. Turn the readers you already get into owned contacts with an email capture on every page that ranks, and track branded search as your true demand signal.
