Amazon opens a free portal for outside stores in search

Amazon launched the Shop Direct Merchant Workspace, a free portal that lets eligible merchants register, verify a website, and submit product feeds for US Amazon search, the Shopping app, and Alexa for Shopping. Shoppers who tap Shop Direct leave Amazon for the merchant site to buy, and eligible items can use Buy for Me. Merchants keep pricing, inventory, fulfillment, and customer service with no fee to join. Amazon said Shop Direct products already appear in hundreds of millions of searches each month, and merchants can reuse catalogs through Feedonomics, Salsify, or the Selling Partner API.

Our take

If you sell outside Amazon and care who starts the shopping trip, put your feed into Shop Direct this week and watch branded and category queries for Shop Direct placements. Keep titles, prices, and stock in sync with the feed you already ship to Google Shopping so Amazon does not show stale offers. For Amazon sellers with SKUs you refuse to list in the store, email shopdirect@amazon.com as Amazon asked rather than dumping every SKU into Seller Central.
