Add something new in every follow up

Three follow ups that bring a new reason to reply instead of just checking in.

Updated · By Blake Emal

Josh Braun lists four follow ups that get people ghosted, like just checking in, and three that work: an offer to share an analysis of 937 booked cold calls, a compliment on the prospect's own take, and a relevant HBR article.

Each follow up gives the reader something useful or personal, so it reads as help rather than pressure.

  1. Never send just checking in
  2. Offer a resource, analysis or insight
  3. Reference something the prospect said
  4. Ask a yes or no question
  5. Change the angle each time
