Amazon lets invited US shoppers text Alexa to place orders

Amazon began inviting a small group of US customers on November 6 to text Alexa for Shopping, a contact that can search, compare items, build a cart, complete a purchase and send delivery updates. Amazon said the option will reach millions more customers in the coming weeks. More than 400 million customers used Alexa for Shopping in the last 12 months, and users of its agentic features have grown more than eight times since January. The same thread will later include order updates, delivery notices and deals, plus products from other stores via Shop Direct.
Our take
A text reply has room for only a few products, so the ranking inside Alexa Shopping will decide who gets seen. Amazon did not say whether Sponsored Products will appear in those replies or how it chooses which items to name. If you sell on Amazon or through Shop Direct, join a test thread and log which of your SKUs get named before Black Friday on November 27. Plan your own SMS program as if this contact will compete with it for reorders and deal alerts.
